99L is headed our way. Late in the week 99L is expected increase in strength, and become a better developed storm. The storm is planning a track along the Caribbean Islands, one that stays out over open water. It’s forecast to miss the mountains in the Caribbean. It is projected to cross the state over the Florida keys, then make a northward track along the gulf coast. If this pans out the way it’s beginning to look like it will, the gulf coast is sure to see flooding, rain, intense wind, and high surf. This is likely to be some of the biggest surf we have seen all summer along the gulf coast. Those colors along the coast are in the 9-12 foot range. That is about as big as the surf gets around here. The surf may get really fun, assuming it doesn’t get blown out, which is probably far more likely. On the other hand, 99L may cruise down the east coast. In that case we are still likely to see a wave, but with hardly the same size or storm intensity. Either way, it looks like we may get a bit of surf next week.
