This evening at the end of February while catching waves after a little cold front came through the area, we witnessed some unusually breathtaking sights. The glassy surf was nice, and unusual, but the things that made this session epic were the combination of dolphins swimming nearly within touching distance, a sunset lighting the clouds with a full palate of colors, and the light from the setting sun combining with the mist in the sky to create a rainbow. It was one of the best days of the winter.

Honeymoon Island State Park: This beach weather calls for Surfing!
These pictures are from after 3pm this afternoon in between the second and third t-groins at the north end of the park. It was perfect beach weather. The waves started out small, but as the tide started to push in and the swell started to rise, the surf grew, and became quite fun. Honeymoon Surfing: Epic sunset, dolphins, and a rainbow.
That front rolled through, things cleared out, and the surf got extra glassy. The incoming tide gave a bit of push to the knee to thigh high surf. An epic sunset, that unusual sight of a rainbow, and a dolphin swimming just a few feet from the lineup of surfers made this one of the best evening sessions of the the winter. The surf was alright this afternoon, nothing epic that’s for sure. It was about thigh high. The current was pretty bad for the size of the surf. Something just wasn’t right with the swell direction. But damn was it nice out! Maybe it will be better tomorrow. Continue reading Prefront Surf
