Texas has been pummeled by Hurricane Harvey with winds well in excess of category three strength. Today, Harvey continues to dump rain over Texas while many federal and local response teams operate 24/7 to reach people stranded in flooded areas. FEMA deployed 500 Urban Search and Rescue personnel, and another 500 more are performing rescues this evening. Additionally, the Coast Guard has 420 people in south Texas. It has 16 helicopters in the air, 8 more inbound, and rescues of more than 2,000 multi-person cases in Houston-Galveston. The federal assets are there to support the affected states with search and rescue, mass care, disaster medical services, temporary power, and commodities. The Texas National Guard (featured image) has also been aiding citizens in heavily flooded areas. Response efforts are expected to continue through the night.
