Sand Key Park is located on the peninsula named Sand Key. It is considered a part of Clearwater Beach. Beach and jetty access are through the park. This spot is good on northwest swells. It is a consistent wave by the gulf’s standards. It is notoriously difficult to surf. It is a beach-break, so the wave often is full of sand. It is most often surfed in the winter-time.
After surfing all morning on the cleanup day, on the drive home, my phone rings. I get a phone call. Hey! Want to come up to Port Richey and do some fishing? Sure! Slightly exhausted I made the short extra 10 minute drive into the town.We quickly got bait from a local bait shop.Then we made our way to the bridge by the hooters and shells.
Tarpon are known for their usual commute through our area around May and through the following couple months. They travel along the beaches and inshore while they make their migration to cooler water.
