The Tropical Wave Over Florida

There’s a tropical wave moving past the state tonight.  NOAA is calling it a surface trough.  This area of weather is kicking up substantial storms, but it’s just a big area of tropical moisture.  Just a little east wind and high rain chances for the coming days. Storms will be active in the afternoons.

Unfortunately, no surf in our long term forecast. There should be something springing up in the near future.  Approaching August statistics tell us the chances of a large wave producing storm is far more likely than previous months. August and September has a big spike in tropical activity every year. The gulf or east coast is sure to see fun surf in the coming months.

Downtown St. Pete Concrete Skate Park

The concrete skate park company that brought you the parks in Dunedin, New Smyrna Beach, and 28 other locations in the state of Florida are bringing you a concrete park in downtown St. Pete after the final design plans (image) were recently approved by the city. The Team Pain design is being touted as one of the largest skate parks in Florida, at 28,000 square feet, give or take. There is even a snake run into something very similar to the once iconic, but no longer existent bro bowl. A major contributor to this accomplishment was the Skate Park Alliance who had been pushing for the park for years. The park will be located right next to Tropicana Field.  The groundbreaking on this city funded 1.25 million dollar project begins on Friday.

Surf Forecasts

Surf Forecast: For Tuesday & Wednesday, June 06 & 07, 2017

The environment is starting to heat up.  This rain and thunderstorm activity appears to be associated with a cold front and tropical low (pictured above).   The tropical like weather will continue over the next few days, and bring southwest winds. Tuesday our surf comes up.  SWAN has it at 4-5 feet by 3pm.  By evening on Tuesday a solid southwest flow will be in place.

Yucatan Channel fetch

The winds will only be around 15 knots, but there is a lot of fetch.  Tuesday evening through Wednesday evening will be in the 4-5 foot seas range.  West Florida water temperatures are at 84°, and rain chances at 70%.  The mornings and evenings will be the time to surf.
