West swell filtered into the sandbars of just about every beach along the gulf coast. The winds a mere 5 mph remained slack throughout the day. The swell periods exceeded 10 seconds for much of the swell. The swell was firing Tuesday evening, and Wednesday morning. Beach-goers were down at the beach enjoying the white sand and oddly warm weather.Far more tourists were at the beach than would be found on the average day in the winter. A likely reason so many people enjoyed the beach is, the water was warmer than would be expected on a cold winter December 30th. It was almost a summer day in Florida.
Trestles in California is one of the most crowded waves in the world. But on Wednesday, the west swell spots were lined with surfers, nearly shoulder to shoulder, surely exceeding the average single day lineup numbers of trestles. The increasing population in Florida and the influx of visitors to Florida during the winter increases the number of potential surfers to catch waves during any exceptional swell during the winter. This swell brought with it hurricane status crowds. Being that there is so many surfers, the surfing community is vibrant and colorful. With interesting personalities at every spot.
